Overview

Epitalon (also spelled Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on Epithalamin, a peptide extract from the pineal gland studied extensively by Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson. It is one of the most prominent peptides in the longevity research community, primarily investigated for its effects on telomerase activation and circadian regulation.

Mechanism of Action

Epitalon activates telomerase, the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length at chromosome ends. Telomere shortening is a hallmark of cellular aging, and telomerase activation can theoretically extend the replicative lifespan of cells. Additionally, Epitalon is believed to influence pineal gland function and melatonin production, supporting circadian rhythm regulation.

Research Context

Khavinson's research group published studies showing increased lifespan in animal models, improved melatonin production in elderly subjects, and telomerase activation in human cell cultures. While these results are promising, independent replication by Western research groups remains limited.

Key Research Areas

Telomerase activation and telomere length maintenance
Pineal gland function and melatonin secretion regulation
Circadian rhythm normalization in aging models
Cellular senescence and replicative lifespan extension
Retinal degeneration protection (Khavinson research)
Antioxidant gene expression

Considerations for Researchers

Epitalon is a very short peptide (4 amino acids), making it stable and affordable. Store at room temperature or refrigerated. Reconstitute with BAC water. The limited independent replication of some claims warrants cautious interpretation.
